Sony A6400 camera review: Definitely not a vlogger's dream camera

Sony's A6400 is a mixed bag. It's essentially a rebadged A6300 with the same sensor and thus the same image quality, but a new a flip-up screen. It's not as good a vlogging or video camera as we expected, because it lacks in-body stabilization and has...

Excellent eye- and face-tracking autofocus ; Fast burst shooting speeds ; Improved programmable buttons ; Sharp video

Bad rolling shutter ; No in-body stabilization ; Dated sensor ; No headphone port

Sony A6400 Review | Trusted Reviews

The middle child in Sony's mirrorless camera line-up offer fantastic specs and features for the price.

Fantastic AF tracking ; Small size is great for travelling ; Good range of accessories and lenses

Fiddly operation ; Limited battery life ; Viewfinder and screen using old technology

The Sony A6400 offers fantastic specifications for the price and features. Highlights include excellent auto-focus tracking, a compact travel design and a diverse set of compatible accessories and lenses. Were it not for minor issues with its handling...

Sony a6400 review

Sony's a6400 is a near-universally capable camera, with a market-leading autofocus implementation at a surprisingly modest price. Find out all the details on how the a6400 performs in our full review.

It's hard to overstate just how good the autofocus system is on the Sony a6400. It's got one of the best implementations out there: not just in its price range, but on the market, period. Once you set the system up, you can pretty much leave it alone...

Sony a6400

The Sony a6400 is a camera that straddles the line between consumer and enthusiast, delivering automatic operation for family snapshots with the image quality and speed aficionados love.

Compact build. 24MP APS-C image sensor. Quick, accurate autofocus. 11fps continuous drive. Large, sharp EVF. Selfie LCD. Built-in flash and hot shoe. 4K video without recording limit.

Omits in-body image stabilization. Flip-up screen not ideal for vloggers. Some operational frustrations. External charger not included. Only full-frame lenses are weather sealed. UHS-I card slot.

Bottom Line: The Sony a6400 is a camera that straddles the line between consumer and enthusiast, delivering automatic operation for family snapshots with the image quality and speed aficionados love.

Sony a6400

What We Love. The Sony a6400 performed so much better than we had expected, making shooting with it a pretty cool experience. Externally, it looks more like an entry-level model crafted for inexperienced shooters and fledgling vloggers. Internally,...

Sony A6400 review

Sony's mid-range mirrorless stops just short of greatness

Lightning fast, super accurate autofocus ; Small, lightweight body ; Generally strong all-round image quality

Some awkward ergonomic choices ; No in-body stabilisation ; Very visible rolling shutter effect

A handful of key issues prevent Sony’s small, fast shooter from being a resounding triumph

Sony A6400 review: A star of track and field

A mirrorless system with E-mount lenses, the A6400 offers great autofocus and subject-tracking in a compact format factor.

Subject tracking AF system ; 180 degree tilting LCD screen for front of camera viewing ; Button and dial customisation ; Great low light performance ; Highly accomplished metering ; Pro video outputs and control

Lacks built-in stabilisation of A6500 ; Top rather than side tilting screen ; Screen blacks out at top burst setting ; Menu system still seems cluttered ; Slow start-up with power zoom ; Rolling shutter issue at 4K

Faster, brighter and a little vainer, the A6400 is a great little camera for the creative photographer and videographer. It builds on the success of its predecessors with a very accomplished focus tracking system, fast focus and more adaptable tilting...

Sony Alpha A6400 review

Meet Sony's all-new mid-range mirrorless camera

Highly advanced autofocus ; Decent burst shooting speed ; Bright viewfinder ; Good video features ; Good value for the spec

No built-in image stabilization ; No headphone jack ; 16:9 aspect ratio screen

You could be forgiven for thinking that the Alpha A6400 is a minor upgrade over the A6300, and in many ways it is. But it's the upgraded and highly advanced autofocus that really shines here, even more so given that it's on a camera costing under...

Sony Alpha a6400 review: A thinner, cheaper, lighter mirrorless

The Sony Alpha a6400 far from the beefiest camera in Sony's lineup but it's a great place to start if you're looking for one.

Great feel ; Clean results ; Interchangeable lenses

Lacks dials ; Sony software is still a bit finicky
